Spend 5 days working en plein air with Master American Impressionist Lori Putnam capturing the sandstone cliffs, rock formations, boats, and bays on Lake Superior’s beautiful Madeline Island. The goal of this workshop is to respond and express the character of time, place, and atmosphere without regard to formulas.
Lori's teaching methods include lectures and demonstrations, individual painting time, lots of one-on-one instruction, plus both personal and group critiques to promote your progress. Additionally, each student will receive a complimentary copy of Lori's booklet, Plein Air Painting: How and Why.
Participants will:
- Develop a deeper understanding for the nature of light and its effects on value and color.
- Capture the essence of nature through strong, simplified composition.
- Experience the power of painting with a limited palette including color mixing and harmony and color temperature.
- Learn the tried and true method for keying a painting and determining value relationships.
- Strengthen your work with proper attention to edges and atmosphere.
Lori's enthusiastic approach will motivate you to new understanding, teach you to reap the benefits of painting outdoors, and help you think, see, plan and paint your subjects using a modern impressionist approach.
