This on-going, advanced mentoring program is for artists seeking to focus on specific goals in a consistent teaching environment. Each 6-day package will be scheduled in three-month increments. (Next quarter dates posted 1 month prior to start date.)

To be considered, send questionnaire and NO payment until you are notified of available space. (You will be notified when and if to send payment.)

Each day-long class will be divided into two sessions -- a half-day demonstration/lecture/class discussion (DLC) session where we will dig deep into advanced principles of painting, followed by a half-day student working session. Students will given suggested assignments to explore on their own. These will be designed around each person's individual strengths, weaknesses, and goals as an artist.

*In the event of ice and snow during winter quarters, alternate Mondays will be offered.

NEXT AVAILABLE DATES: 4th Quarter - Aug. 27, Oct. 1, Oct. 29, Nov. 26, Dec. 10.
(Because this quarter is only 5 days rather than 6, the cost is $500).

Painting the Still Life in Modern Impressionism (Mississippi)

The class will offer demonstrations and individual instruction.

Learn the important elements of successful still life painting, from set up to achievement. Putnam teaches you to think, see, plan and approach your subjects using a modern impressionist approach. Color relationships, design, simplifying, and the benefits of painting from life will be discussed. On day one, Putnam will demonstrate and explain how color, edges, composition, values, and shapes play an abstract part in conveying a strong visual statement. Students may either paint alongside during the first morning session, or wait until the afternoon when she will work with artists individually. Students paint all of day two with instruction and guidance. Workshop continues into the third day with more difficult challenges and hands-on instruction.
